Vomela Announces New Solar Array at Corporate HQ

With the turn of the decade, the idea of solar power as the right choice for business owners has gained remarkable traction. Long story short, the gains have officially begun to outweigh the costs. Solar has always been known for benefiting the environment since it’s an endless, low maintenance renewable resource. But what about the price? The Environmental Protection Agency has found that over the course of the last decade, the average cost of solar panels has decreased by 60%.

Where many companies used to ask "Why solar?", the answer has become "Why not?"

Powering Our Future

The Vomela Companies are proud to announce a state-of-the-art solar array installed at our new corporate headquarters in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Roughly 3,400 panels have been installed, producing up to 1.3 megawatts of DC energy. That’s enough energy to power 200 typical MN metro homes and will provide for roughly a third of total annual energy usage for the facility. Additionally:

  • This project is the largest solar array in all of Saint Paul.
  • The system is capable of offsetting roughly 2,400,000 pounds of CO2 each year. That adds up to over 1,200 tons.
  • This decrease in emissions is equivalent to planting 48,000 trees per year.

Local Solutions

“What started out as a niche product has entered the mainstream, mainly due to drastic technology and price improvements over the last decade.” - Eric Pasi, Chief Development Officer at Impact Power Solutions

The Vomela Companies worked with a local company, Impact Power Solutions, to get the project completed. IPS has been delivering solar and power solutions to the Twin Cities for nearly 30 years.  Working with a trusted local business gave us an opportunity to benefit our community while receiving an accessible, high quality service in return. When asked about specific challenges during the project, Eric Pasi noted, “For new construction projects it's best to consult with the design team early on. Vomela needed to upsize the roof joists to accommodate additional weight for solar which averages about five pounds per square foot. This eliminated any need for attachments or holes in the roof. We also worked with the electrical design team to make sure the solar project integrated with the building's infrastructure efficiently.”

Making a sustainable, forward-facing change in the way we run our business takes another green step forward with this development. The Vomela Companies were able to work with a local company, Impact Power Solutions, to get the project completed. IPS has been delivering solar and power solutions to the Twin Cities for nearly thirty years.

The new power solution, produced and installed by a local company, is a win for Saint Paul. Pasi closed out his commentary by saying, “Vomela has also been a great partner, and very smart about energy. They understand that solar makes them more competitive. Working with visionary teams like Vomela typically leads to successful outcomes.”

Everyone on the team at Vomela agrees that there’s nothing quite like making a change where everyone involved feels bettered by the outcome.
