Gorgeous Window Clings: What You Need to Know

Window graphics and decals are a must-have for any attractive store front. Before you make any final decisions about window clings, there are many factors to consider in order to ensure a flawless result.

When deciding what type of cling is best for your project you should consider the following:

Where is the cling going?

Will the cling be on the inside or outside of the window?
While an outside, or first surface, application will give you the best visibility this isn’t always optimal due to adverse conditions, such as rain. Another consideration is washing and care. Some materials will not withstand power washing.
If you are concerned about theft or vandalism, an inside or second surface application is a better option.

Do you want to be able to see through the cling?

If your answer is yes, then a clear option is best. Clear environmental graphics allow light in and the graphic can be seen from inside or outside. Another option is a perforated cling. This cling appears opaque on the outside, but allows you to see through on the inside.
If you are not concerned about visibility through the cling then select an opaque option.

How long do you want the cling to stay on the window?

This is important as it will dictate the adhesive material used. Clings can be made of materials that will be temporary or permanent. For example, there are clings that use static and no adhesive at all. Always let your printer know how long the cling will be up as they can make the appropriate recommendation on materials.

These clings we created for Target and Burberry are both great example of opaque, temporary window clings.

Who will be installing the cling?

If you are not having the cling professionally installed it is imperative that you provide directions to the associate or employee that will be responsible for applying the cling. For this reason you may want to consider a material that is repositionable and always include a hand applicator, or squeegee. This is a plastic device that will smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles in the cling.
